FAQs

HOME>FAQs

Lots of brides ask me very similar questions when I meet them – I’ve put together some of those FAQs about wedding hair and make-up to help, so here they are.

Which geographical areas do you cover?

I am based in Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex and can travel anywhere in the UK and abroad if you want me to, however if the job is local and within a 40-mile radius of me then there’s no extra travel expenses to incur.

How soon before the wedding should I book a trial?

Once we’ve had an initial consultation, (usually on the phone or via email) I’m happy for you to book a trial whenever you want. It may be that you’re waiting for your veil and want it at your trial or you’re not getting married until a year later, in which case I’d suggest to wait a little nearer the time because your hair may well have changed, (colour or style). A little guidance would be anything from 6 months before your wedding day – that way, it will give you time to book another trial in, (after changing your mind about a style or look) should you want one.

Where will the trial take place?

The trial will take place at a venue of your choice. It’s usually at your home, at a parents home or even at a friend’s home – it’s up to you! As long as it’s not outside of a 40-mile radius from me you won’t incur any travel expenses.

Who can I bring to the trial?

You can bring whoever you like. As long as there’s enough room and they’re not going to have too much of an opinion to sway you off your desired look.

How long does the trial take?

I would allow 3-4 hours for a hair AND make-up trial. We’ll chat alot and go through any pictures you may have so I get to know you and what it is you want.

Can anyone have a trial?

Yes. Your bridesmaids or anyone in the bridal party that want my services on your wedding day can book in for a trial. Please tell them to get in touch.

How many other people can you do make-up or hair for on the day?

I can help a number of people with their hair and make-up and have separate costs per person however it does depend on the timings of your wedding day and how long we have to get ready. If there’s enough need I can arrange for an assistant to come with me at no extra cost.  We can talk about this at an initial consultation or at the trial.

What time will you arrive on the day?

Once we’ve had the trial we’ll be able to work out how long it will take to get you and any others in the bridal party ready. It varies massively depending on hair types, length, thickness and the style you go for, and whether you’re having lashes applied and a lot or not a lot of make-up. As a general rule if I’m doing your hair AND make-up I would allow up to 2 hours for you the bride, on your wedding day.

What if I need to re-touch my lipstick on the day?

I have various shades and products that we can use at the trial to get an idea of what suits you and your look. Any recommendations I make you’re more than welcome to make a note of and purchase for any touch-ups on the day.

How and when do you take payment?

For the trial, I ask for payment of that on the day, (when I see you) either with cash or happy for you to do an online bank transfer. If you’re happy with the trial and wish to book me for your wedding day then I ask for a deposit of £50, again either with cash or an online transfer, to secure your wedding date in my diary. This amount is fully redeemable against the final balance.

Should I wash my hair the night before?

Ideally yes you should however it depends on the hair style you’re having! Don’t worry too much with the trial, I understand that some brides want to feel ‘clean’ on their wedding day and ‘need’ to wash it every morning anyway so we can talk about what’s best and what products we might need to use to combat any silky locks, (if it’s being pinned up) at the trial.

Which products do you use?

Cosmetic brands I have in my kit include Chanel and Bobbi Brown foundations and concealers, lots of MAC eyeshadows and various products by brands including NARS, Laura Mercier, Dior and Estee Lauder. If you are allergic or sensitive to any brands in particular please mention it before or at the trial and maybe we can supplement that product with one of your own.

Do I pay extra for eyelashes?

No. I use the individual lashes that last for the day, or a couple of days if you’re lucky and can easily be removed by pulling off gently. It takes a little bit more time on the day but it does depend on how many you want to achieve your desired look. I can work with your own lash extensions should you have had them done!

Can I book you for just make-up or just hair?

Yes you can. I prefer to do both as it means my skills give you the overall look you’re after but happy to chat about what it is you need.

What if I decide to cancel my booking?

It’s fine. It just means the £50 deposit you will have already paid is non-refundable and I’d appreciate it if you could tell me as soon as possible but other than that nothing else happens.

What if you are ill on my wedding day?

In the very unlikely event of this happening I will endeavour to find a replacement hair and make-up artist to cover on the day, (from my contacts) although if this was impossible you would receive a full refund.
